My Story

Imperfection is beauty; madness is genius; and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.
– Marilyn Monroe.

I’m Giavanna Whitney. I’m 19 years old and believe that every person is beautiful, important, worthwhile, and fabulous; which is exactly what this blog will be about. I have a mission in life to make women feel as beautiful as possible. Show them how wonderful they can be, their potential, and I plan on changing the way women view their roles in society and within themselves.

How I got here: At the age of 17 I got diagnosed with an auto-immune disease called Ulcerative Colitis. It is something that I will struggle with for the rest of my life, getting tests done frequently, taking a handful of medication daily, and having to deal with the pain that goes along with UC. After I got diagnosed my doctor put me on a steroid called prednisone, which is a very harsh drug to be on. I gained weight like crazy, wasn’t able to sleep for months, and felt like I had no control over my emotions. I hated the situation I was in and was nothing but negative. I hated myself and felt like I was a lost cause with no control over my body. In order to be “normal” I had to fill my body with all these different medications and I didn’t think that was fair.

Then, one day I sat back and really thought about the situation I was in… The reality of it is I can either deal with what I was given and be grateful for what I have or I can feel lost/helpless all the time and not live my life to the fullest. I realized that no matter what happens you have to move forward and be happy with the life you’re living. I am beautiful, confident, and able to achieve anything I put my mind to even with my UC. So, I chose to be happy with life and look at the big picture. In doing that it dawned on me that I’m not the only one to have ever felt this way, who has ever felt hopeless, ugly, or self conscious. Which is why I am telling my story.

This is my journey – being handed something that I never imagined I’d have to deal with and instead of turning it into a negative I made it a positive. My blog is meant for motivation and inspiration, a place you can go to be reminded how beautiful and phenomenal you are.

A girl’s most beautiful outfit ever is charisma, the prettiest accessory is smile, and the best pair of heels is confidence.
