But on The Bright Side

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.

Helen Keller

It’s easy to look at all of the negative things happening in your life. You feel like you’ve hit rock bottom and there’s nowhere to go. You’re stuck. There’s nothing left worth reaching for. You’ve admitted defeat and completely given up. Many of us know this feeling all too well.

It’s challenging to look at everything happening in your life and only focus on the positives. Often, the pull of the downward spiral makes it feel like it’s too difficult to pull yourself out. Don’t give in to those feelings. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. You can always go up from wherever you are. Things will get better. All you have to do is trust that this isn’t the end. Keep your head held high.

I learned that I was never alone, that there was someone always very close by and, indeed, within me, giving me strength in times of weakness and desolation, light in times of darkness, joy in times of great sorrow and pain, and the will to struggle on when continuing seemed futile.

Joseph F. Girzone

Some things in this world are bigger than we are. They are bigger than you and they are bigger than me. Let people in. You don’t have to keep everything bottled up inside. Whether you choose to confide in someone else or write everything down in a journal, let it out!

When I start feeling frustrated or pessimistic I turn to blogging. Being able to write all of my thoughts down, whether they’re just for me or posted on The Bon Blog, takes a huge weight off my chest. I write everything down then I’ll come back to it after a few hours and I’ll read it. Going back to it after some time has passed allows me to cool down and truly process all of my thoughts. Things typically seem a lot worse than they actually are. I’m able to find strength and hopefulness through my writing.

Show your strength by being able to open up and talk about whatever you’re struggling with. Don’t think of it as a sign of weakness. Allowing someone to pick you back up after you fall could be all it takes for you to realize that things are going to get better.

Look in the mirror every morning and tell yourself that you can do the impossible. You’re a smart, beautiful and empowering human being. Nothing can stop you from being happy with yourself and overjoyed about life. The happiness of your life is a reflection of your thoughts, keep them positive and jubilant.

When we meet real tragedy in life, we can react in two ways – either by losing hope and falling into self-destructive habits, or by using the challenge to find our inner strength.
