She Said, She Said

It seems there are only two points of view when people think of feminism. The women that live and breathe feminism and the women that think feminists give women a bad name. There is never a happy medium and no one is ever willing to meet in the middle. On the other hand, we aren’t willing to agree to disagree either. So, my question is, can we be open minded or are we only willing to hear our side?

One thing that our generation struggles with is detaching themselves from their emotion. The second someone adds emotion into a conversation it becomes impossible to try and reason with them. Logic is now lost. People have lost the ability to rationally discuss things. Now, we turn a blind eye to any viewpoint remotely different from ours. It’s no wonder feminists have such a bad stereotype. Instead of trying to fight for what we, as women, believe in all we do is go to war with each other. If you feel like the entire world is against you, then do something about it other than ranting on Facebook. Attacking people via social media will get us nowhere. As women we should respect one another. We should be willing to listen to every opinion and have a civil conversation whether you agree or disagree.

My views on feminism are simple. Women and men should be considered equal under all circumstances. If we are going to be treated the same in the work place and have equal pay, then we should be treated the same as a criminal and have equal sentencing. I believe that we should be able to do things on our own and not have to rely on other people, men or women. I don’t think women are victims as much as we make ourselves out to be the victims. Women can do anything men can do, we just need to set our minds to it and do it. Instead of waiting for everyone else’s approval. It’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

My idea of feminism is self-determination, and it’s very open-ended: every woman has the right to become herself, and do whatever she needs to do.

“… every woman has the right to become herself and do whatever she needs to do.” You can believe and feel however you wish. Everyone needs to do what’s best for them. The important thing to remember is that everyone’s opinion matters and we need to respect every different perspective. Open up your mind and be accepting of change. Listen to others and show them that you value what they’re saying.
