Just The Way You Are
Body Image is something that girls struggle with everyday, and it’s something that I struggle with everyday.

When you look in the mirror what do you see? Do you see someone who isn’t pretty enough or skinny enough? Do you feel that you have to look a certain way to fit in? How do you feel when you see a breathtaking Victoria Secret model or fitness model? If this is how you feel, know that you aren’t alone.
We live in a society that sets unrealistic and unobtainable standards on how men and women should look. When you pick up a magazine or watch your favorite T.V. series or movie, what do you see? You see all of these sexy, thin, fit, “perfect” individuals that are successful and desirable.
Men feel that they need to have a body builder’s physique and an NBA player’s height. Women feel that they need to have a DD breast size and a four finger thigh gap like the Victoria Secret Angels. For most of us, reaching those unrealistic goals will never be possible no matter how hard we try.
The next time you look in the mirror tell yourself that you are beautiful or handsome. When you look at yourself, you should see someone who is kind, intelligent, loved, successful, happy, funny and important. You are in control of how you look. That includes your makeup, your hairstyle and how you dress. Don’t let someone else tell you how you do you. As long as you are healthy and happy, that’s all that should matter. You are in control of your image not society.
By no means am I perfect. Sometimes I feel like there are a million things I need to change about myself. I don’t have a thigh gap and no matter how hard I try I will never have one. I will never be a size double zero, nor will I have an impressive cup size. But that’s okay! My body doesn’t make me who I am. I define who I am by letting my tenacious personality shine. I know that I’m perfectly imperfect just the way I am. I don’t need to change for anyone, I’m happy with who I am and that’s all that matters.

Being comfortable in your own skin should be everyone’s ultimate goal. Feeling confident with the way you look makes for a happy you. Focus on loving who you are and believing in yourself. You’re beautiful and you are you. No one can change that. Confidence and happiness are the new sexy!
I think there’s so much emphasis on body image and results and outcome, but really what you should be after is to be healthy and to feel good about yourself.
