Just Breathe… You’ll Never Live This Moment Again
Wow, has life been overwhelming and stressful lately or what?!
It just seems like life continues to get busier and busier, yet none of us stop to take the time to appreciate, well, life. When was the last time you just stopped and took a breath?
It seems to me that our cultural has built an image around what it means to be busy and what it means to be idle. Our society praises those of us that are continuously busy. If you’re idle that immediately means that you’re lazy and unsuccessful. This especially holds true for the midwest.
If you’re walking down the hallway and someone asks you how you’re doing, how often do you hear someone say “busy!”? Why is it that we feel the need to advertise how uncontrollably busy our lives are? Do we feel a sense of power compared to those of us that aren’t nearly as busy? Do we feel important? Or do we simply find satisfaction in overworking ourselves to the point of not being able to enjoy the finer things in life?
It’s not very often that we take the time to center ourselves as an individual. Most of us can’t find enough time throughout the day to allot five minutes to meditation, deep breathing, or refocusing. Taking at least five minutes a day to focus on yourself, push out your worries, leave behind your stress, and focus on being calm and peaceful is easy. None of that should be too much to ask for, yet it’s hard to find someone who’s willing to take the time. Our society has created a negative notion towards those of us that refocus our priorities on finding those moments in life to be idle, making it less and less attractive to us.
The beauty in being idle.
When you retire and start to grow old, what are you going to wish to remember? All of the moments that you were completely stressed out? Like giving yourself a stomach ulcer stressed. Or those moments that you put away the work/projects to enjoy all of the beauty around you? And I mean completely eliminate all worries and solely focus in on the greatness life has to offer you. You’re probably going to wish to remember those moments you spent peacefully enjoying life.
Shedding some of the work load and prioritizing time for relaxation is not a downfall – as much as our society tries to tell us it is. Your body and mind require a sense of peacefulness and calmness in order to stay healthy. So stop overworking your mind, body, and soul. Take a breather throughout the day. Find some alone time to reflect and push out any worries you might have. Allow yourself to just be idle. Allow yourself to relax, open your eyes, put down the work, and soak up all of the beauty (in a non-rushed, calm fashion).
